DIP settings for some Presario 1200 series Laptops

This page contains DIP switch settngs for only select models of the 1200 series, as yet I do not have all the necessary data to complete the whole range.

The models that I will cover here, are those which have an AMD K6-2 processor, as this is the CPU with which I am most familiar.
Basically, the 1200 series is basically a slightly smaller package of the 1600 series, so there are similarities. However, these similarities do not extend to the DIP switch arrangement !

Here are the settings that I have found to be correct for the 1255 to 1260 models:
(For 1277, 78, 79, 1246 and 47, see second half of page).

There is only one block of switches to find (SW1).

CPU CORE VOLTAGE

1.8v 1=off 2=off 3=off 4=off

1.9v 1=on 2=off 3=off 4=off

2.0v 1=off 2=on 3=off 4=off

2.1v 1=off 2=off 3=on 4=off

2.2v 1=off 2=off 3=off 4=on

CPU I/O VOLTAGE

2.5v 5=off 6=on

3.3v 5=on 6=off

MULTIPLIER

2.0x 7=on 8=on 9=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

3.0x 7=off 8=on 9=off

3.5x 7=off 8=off 9=off

4.0x 7=on 8=off 9=on

4.5x 7=on 8=on 9=on

5.0x 7=off 8=on 9=on

5.5x 7=off 8=off 9=on

6.0x 7=on 8=off 9=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

BUS SPEED

60 MHz 10=on

66 MHz 10=off

Your System Can Run Faster

Here are the settings that I have found to be correct for the 1277 and 1278 models:
(These look as though they will work for the 1246, 1247, and 1279 too, please let me know if they do!). As a check, look at what your default settings are, then see if they match ny settings for your existing configuration.

There are two blocks of DIPS on the motherboard (SW1, and SW2).

MULTIPLIER (SW1)

2.0x 1=on 2=on 3=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

3.0x 1=off 2=on 3=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

3.5x 1=off 2=off 3=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

4.0x 1=on 2=off 3=on

4.5x 1=on 2=on 3=on

5.0x 1=off 2=on 3=on

5.5x 1=off 2=off 3=on (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

6.0x 1=on 2=off 3=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!).

BUS SPEED (SW1)

100 MHz 4=on 5=on 6=on

96.2 MHz 4=off 5=on 6=off

95 MHz 4=off 5=on 6=on

91 MHz 4=off 5=off 6=off

89.5 MHz 4=on 5=on 6=off (This setting not yet tested, let me know if it works!)

83 MHz 4=on 5=off 6=on

66 MHz 4=on 5=off 6=off

VOLTAGE (SW2)

2.0v 1=on 2=on 3=on 4=on )= These are as yet untested, if they are not correct, let me know!

2.1v 1=off 2=off 3=on 4=off )= These are as yet untested, if they are not correct, let me know!

2.2v 1=off 2=off 3=off 4=on )= These are as yet untested, if they are not correct, let me know!

No harm will come to an AMD CPU with the above voltages if they are incorrect, in the short to medium term, but I do want to know if they are not right, then I can calculate some more voltages for this model.

I would welcome any comments about this site/page, particularly if you find any errors/omissions.

If you can open up your machine and send me the settings that exist for ALL the DIP switches that you have, together with the specifications of your machine (CPU type (Intel or AMD), voltage, speed, screen type/size), then I may be able to extend the range of settings on this page. I would be most interested to hear about models that I have not covered (including the 1200 XL series), plus the 1246, 1247, and 1279.

e-mail me at: mgrudkin@yahoo.com, but please note the new charges that apply for any questions that you would like answering. Details on the base of the main page.
